Overview

PEGA-COOH4C44 is a telodendrimer-functionalized resin developed as part of a telodendrimer nanotrap (TDNT) platform for the treatment of sepsis. It is designed for use in extracorporeal hemoperfusion to selectively remove inflammatory cytokines from the blood. The resin consists of a poly(ethylene glycol) acrylamide (PEGA) base functionalized with negatively charged carboxylic acid (COOH) groups arranged in a specific telodendrimer architecture (4C44). This negative surface charge allows the resin to selectively adsorb and sequester positively charged (cationic) cytokines, such as interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), which are often elevated during the hyperinflammatory phase of sepsis. By reducing the systemic cytokine burden and targeting specific cytokine charge disparities, PEGA-COOH4C44 aims to modulate the dysregulated immune response, prevent organ failure, and improve survival in septic patients.
