Overview

The recombinant five-antigen Staphylococcus aureus vaccine, also known as the rStaph vaccine, is a protein subunit vaccine developed by Olymvax Biopharmaceuticals. It is produced using an E. coli expression system and contains five key recombinant antigens: alpha-hemolysin (Hla), Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL) subunits LukS and LukF, clumping factor A (ClfA), and staphylococcal enterotoxin B (SEB). The vaccine is designed to provide broad protection against Staphylococcus aureus infections by inducing neutralizing antibodies that inhibit bacterial adhesion and neutralize potent toxins. It is currently in Phase III clinical trials in China, specifically targeting the prevention of surgical site infections in patients undergoing orthopaedic surgery.
