Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Remdesivir + baricitinib is a combination therapy of two small molecule drugs used primarily for the treatment of COVID-19 in hospitalized patients. Remdesivir is a broad-spectrum antiviral agent that inhibits viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, thereby blocking viral replication. Baricitinib is an oral Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor, specifically targeting JAK1 and JAK2, which modulates inflammatory responses by interfering with cytokine signaling pathways. The combination was granted Emergency Use Authorization by the FDA for use in adults and pediatric patients aged two years or older who require supplemental oxygen or mechanical ventilation due to COVID-19. Clinical trials have shown that this combination reduces time to recovery compared to remdesivir alone[1][2][3][6].
