Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Rhubarb + ulinastatin is a combination therapy consisting of rhubarb, a traditional Chinese medicinal herb, and ulinastatin, a protease inhibitor. Rhubarb is known for its gastrointestinal protective and anti-inflammatory properties, while ulinastatin inhibits the activity of various proteases and reduces inflammatory cytokine production. This combination has been investigated primarily for the treatment of sepsis. Clinical studies suggest that the combined use may improve immune function by modulating T lymphocyte subsets and reducing markers of inflammation more effectively than either agent alone. The mechanism involves both immunomodulation (via effects on T-cell populations) and suppression of excessive inflammatory responses[1][2][3][4].
