SYN-1012 is an experimental small molecule beta-lactamase inhibitor developed by Naeja Pharmaceutical (formerly SynPhar Laboratories). It was designed to address antibiotic resistance by inhibiting the beta-lactamase enzymes produced by bacteria, which otherwise degrade beta-lactam antibiotics such as penicillins and cephalosporins. As part of Naeja's "SYN" series of infectious disease candidates, SYN-1012 was intended to be used in combination with existing antibiotics to restore their efficacy against resistant strains. The compound was primarily researched in the preclinical stage, and development has since been discontinued following the cessation of Naeja's active internal pipeline programs.
