Tc-99m-CXCL8 is a radiopharmaceutical agent consisting of the chemokine ligand CXCL8 (also known as interleukin-8) labeled with the radioisotope technetium-99m. It is designed for use in single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging to detect and localize sites of neutrophil-driven inflammation. The mechanism involves targeting and binding to CXCR1 and CXCR2 receptors expressed on activated neutrophils, allowing visualization of areas with active neutrophil recruitment such as inflamed intestinal tissue in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). This non-invasive imaging technique provides a novel method for monitoring disease activity in conditions characterized by neutrophilic inflammation, particularly moderate to severe IBD exacerbations[2][3].
