Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CP 690,550 oral solution (tofacitinib oral solution) is a liquid formulation of tofacitinib, a small molecule Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor developed by Pfizer. Tofacitinib selectively inhibits JAK1 and JAK3, thereby blocking the signaling of several inflammatory cytokines (such as IL-2, IL-4, IL-7, IL-9, IL-15, and IL-21) that are integral to lymphocyte activation, proliferation, and function. The oral solution formulation, marketed under the brand name Xeljanz, was developed to provide an easier-to-administer oral option for pediatric patients and individuals who have difficulty swallowing tablets. It is FDA-approved for the treatment of active polyarticular course juvenile idiopathic arthritis (pcJIA) and juvenile psoriatic arthritis (jPsA) in patients 2 years of age and older, and has been evaluated in clinical studies for its palatability and pharmacokinetics.
