Xylentra

Xylentra (also known as Genopep) is a first-in-class peptide-based New Chemical Entity (NCE) developed by Issar Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of burn wounds and microbial infections. Formulated as a topical cream containing a de novo antimicrobial peptide (dAMP), it promotes wound healing through a multi-modal mechanism of action. It leverages basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) activity to stimulate the growth of fibroblasts and keratinocytes, while simultaneously providing broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity to control infection and exerting anti-inflammatory effects to reduce markers of inflammation. Xylentra is specifically indicated for second-degree burn wounds and represents the world's first peptide-based drug for this indication. It was licensed to Viatris (formerly Mylan Laboratories) in 2020 and is approved for use in India.
