Overview

This drug is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of four agents: cyclophosphamide, dexamethasone, doxorubicin, and vincristine. It is most commonly known as part of the "Hyper-CVAD" protocol (hyperfractionated cyclophosphamide, vincristine, doxorubicin [Adriamycin], and dexamethasone), which is used primarily in the treatment of hematologic malignancies such as acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and some types of lymphoma. Cyclophosphamide is an alkylating agent that crosslinks DNA to inhibit cell division; doxorubicin is an anthracycline antibiotic that intercalates DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II; vincristine disrupts microtubule formation to arrest mitosis; dexamethasone is a synthetic glucocorticoid with anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects. The combination targets rapidly dividing cancer cells through multiple mechanisms including DNA damage, inhibition of mitosis, and modulation of immune response[1][2][5].
