Drug intelligence / Profile preview
EMP16 is an investigational **oral modified-release fixed-dose combination** of **orlistat** and **acarbose** developed by Empros Pharma for chronic weight management in adults with obesity. The proprietary gastrointestinal formulation is intended to release its components at selected intestinal sites to reduce dietary fat and carbohydrate digestion and absorption while improving tolerability relative to conventional formulations. In a 26-week randomized phase 2a study, EMP16 produced placebo-adjusted relative weight loss of approximately 4.7% to 5.4%; subsequent phase 2 studies have evaluated the contribution of acarbose and gastrointestinal tolerability during dose escalation.
