Overview

Fingolimod + fluoxetine is a combination therapy involving fingolimod, an oral sphingosine 1-phosphate receptor modulator primarily used for the treatment of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (MS), and fluoxetine, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) commonly prescribed for depression. This combination has been studied in MS patients with comorbid mild-to-moderate depression to assess safety and efficacy. Fingolimod acts by sequestering lymphocytes in lymph nodes, thereby reducing their migration into the central nervous system and limiting inflammatory damage. Fluoxetine increases synaptic serotonin levels by inhibiting its reuptake, alleviating depressive symptoms. Clinical studies have shown that this combination does not result in unexpected safety signals; patient-reported outcomes such as quality of life, fatigue, disability, and depression remained stable or improved during treatment[1][3][6].
