Overview

Jisheng Shenqi decoction is a traditional Chinese medicinal formula used to tonify Kidney Yang, promote diuresis, and alleviate edema. It is a modification of the classic Shenqi Wan (Kidney Qi Pill), adding Achyranthes bidentata and Plantago asiatica to enhance its diuretic and circulation-promoting effects. In clinical practice, it is frequently employed to treat conditions characterized by fluid retention, such as edema, ascites associated with liver cirrhosis, and chronic kidney disease. The formula typically consists of ten herbs: Rehmannia glutinosa, Dioscorea opposita, Cornus officinalis, Alisma orientale, Poria cocos, Paeonia suffruticosa, Cinnamomum cassia, Aconitum carmichaelii, Achyranthes bidentata, and Plantago asiatica. Liuzhou Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital is evaluating a modified version of this decoction in combination with astragalus (Huangqi) injection for the treatment of liver cirrhosis.
