Melatonin + pentoxifylline is a combination of two small molecule drugs, each with distinct but complementary mechanisms. Melatonin is an indoleamine hormone primarily produced by the pineal gland, known for regulating circadian rhythms and possessing strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Pentoxifylline is a xanthine derivative that acts as a phosphodiesterase inhibitor, improving microcirculation and exhibiting anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) production. The combination has been studied in preclinical models for its potential to reduce oxidative stress, inflammation, and liver injury in conditions such as chemically induced hepatotoxicity and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Both agents have also been considered as adjuvant therapies in viral infections like COVID-19 due to their immunomodulatory actions[1][2][3][4][5].
