Overview
Wensan tincture is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) transdermal formulation developed by Guang'anmen Hospital of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences. It is designed for the treatment of upper respiratory tract infections (URTI), particularly those occurring in winter and spring, and is specifically used to alleviate URTI-related cough. The tincture is part of a "warming and dispersing" (Wensan) therapeutic strategy. In clinical studies, such as the Phase 0 SMART trial (ChiCTR2400080482), it is evaluated as a transdermal therapy compared against oral medications like montelukast sodium and other TCM powders. As a tincture, it is a liquid herbal extract typically applied to the skin to exert localized or systemic effects through acupoint stimulation or percutaneous absorption.
