5-aminosalicylic acid + beclomethasone dipropionate

This drug is a fixed-dose combination of 5-aminosalicylic acid (also known as mesalazine or 5-ASA) and beclomethasone dipropionate (BDP), used primarily for the treatment of active distal ulcerative colitis.
Mechanism of Action:

• 5-Aminosalicylic acid is an anti-inflammatory agent that acts locally in the colon to inhibit prostaglandin and leukotriene synthesis, scavenge free radicals, and modulate immune responses by inhibiting cytokine production. It targets multiple inflammatory pathways implicated in ulcerative colitis.
• Beclomethasone dipropionate is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid with potent topical anti-inflammatory activity. It suppresses the actions of various inflammatory cells (mast cells, eosinophils, basophils, lymphocytes, macrophages, neutrophils) and inhibits release of mediators such as histamine and cytokines.

Clinical studies have shown that this combination therapy provides superior improvement in sigmoidoscopic and histological scores compared to either agent alone for active distal ulcerative colitis. The combination has demonstrated higher rates of clinical improvement without increased adverse effects.
