This is a combination antifungal therapy consisting of micafungin (an echinocandin), amphotericin B (a polyene), and itraconazole (a triazole). Micafungin inhibits the synthesis of (1,3)-beta-D-glucan, an essential component of fungal cell walls. Amphotericin B binds to ergosterol in fungal cell membranes, creating pores that lead to cell death. Itraconazole inhibits fungal cytochrome P450-dependent enzymes, preventing the synthesis of ergosterol. This combination has been studied for treating acute invasive aspergillosis, with micafungin showing potential synergistic activity with amphotericin B.
