Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pneumococcal 20-valent conjugate vaccine (PCV20) is a sterile suspension of saccharides of the capsular antigens of 20 serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae (1, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 6B, 7F, 8, 9V, 10A, 11A, 12F, 14, 15B, 18C, 19A, 19F, 22F, 23F, and 33F) individually conjugated to a non-toxic diphtheria cross-reactive material 197 (CRM197) carrier protein. Developed by Pfizer, the vaccine is designed to provide active immunization for the prevention of invasive disease and pneumonia caused by these 20 serotypes in individuals 6 weeks of age and older, as well as otitis media in infants and young children. It builds upon the 13-valent vaccine (Prevnar 13) by adding seven additional serotypes associated with high case-fatality rates, antibiotic resistance, and meningitis.
